The Particulars of Organisation, Functions and Duties
The Aizawl Municipal Corporation is the authority of civic administration of Aizawl city. It was formed in 2010 with 19 Members when the Congress-ZNP party coalition was voted to power in the state legislative assembly. The AMC office is being administered by Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Municipal Commissioner. It consists of 19 elected members representing 19 wards of the city and others appointed by the Governor of Mizoram. One-third of the total membership is reserved for women, these six seats shall be rotated after every five years. The tenure of the Corporation is five years. There is a Ward Committee in every ward that consists of a Chairman, who is an elected councillor from that ward, and two members each from all the local council within the ward. There are 85 local councils having a term of 5 years.

Solid Waste Management
- Dry & Wet Wastes collected by Aizawl Municipal Corporation are managed at Solid Waste Management Center (SWMC), Tuirial.
- Solid Waste Management Center (SWMC), Tuirial is located at a distance of 22 kms from the heart of Aizawl city.
DISPLAY OF ADVERTISEMENT AND HOARDING REGULATIONS
- Display of Advertisement and Hoarding Regulations 2013 commenced from 6th January 2014
- No Hoarding Zone was declared and was notified on 6th May 2015.
- For the purpose of cleanliness, Banner Display Application is deliberated whereby Rs.2000/- is submitted as security deposit in advance which is reimbursed after the applicant who is granted permission removes the display
- Regulations is applicable to all advertisements within AMC Area whether on LAND, BUILDING, WALL, HOARDING, FRAME, POST, KIOSK, any STRUCTURE, or by any other means whatsoever by which it is open to public view in any manner, visible from a public street or places, whether moving or stable and cinematography
- 206 Hoarding frames are tendered out of which 194 are currently utilised.

Registration of Births & Deaths
- AMC is designated as one of the offices of the Assistant Registrar of Births & Deaths under Economics & Statistics Department within AMC municipal area from 1st, Aug, 2016
- Non-Delayed Birth/Death Certificate are the certificates that are registered and issued within 21 days from the date of Birth/Death. Local Registrar of Births and Deaths (RBD) have the whole authority to register and issue non-delayed Birth/Death certificate without any payment of fees.

Site Development & Slope Modification
The
AMC created a Landslide Policy Committee to recommend and draft specific
policies that will reduce and manage the risks of landslides in October 2013.
As a result, the Site Development and Slope Modification Regulations
(SD&SM) was finalized in June 2014 & the SD&SM Regulations Notified
vide Govt. Gazette No.B.13017/75/2016 – UD&PA dt. 4th April, 2017.
As
per the Regulations, the Aizawl Hazard Map prepared by Geo-Hazard International
was approved by the Aizawl Municipal Corporation on 28th June, 2017 (vide BOC
Meeting). Before, implementation of the Regulations, the Geologic Review Board
(GRB) was constituted as per Regulation 8 of SD&SM on 9th August, 2020.

Plastic Waste Management
Plastic
Waste Management Bye-Law was framed on 16th July, 2019 and came into force
on 1st August,2019 vide Notification number RNI
No. 7009/1973. The Board of Councilors
banned the usage of Plastic below 50 micron in thickness w.e.f 1st
August, 2019. This was followed by
Aizawl being declared a Plastic Free City w.e.f 2nd October, 2019. Further,
Aizawl Mayor declared AMC Office & premises as Single Use Plastic (SUP)
Free on 21st June, 2022.
